Cabinet reshuffle, expansion put on hold

By Zulfiqar Ghuman

ISLAMABAD: The expected federal cabinet reshuffle has been placed on indefinite hold, sources told Daily Times on Sunday.

“What I can say at the moment is that the cabinet reshuffle is not on the cards,” a source in the Presidency said on condition of anonymity. A source within the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) explained that the reshuffle had been delayed indefinitely because of the expected expansion in the Punjab cabinet.

He said the PPP was currently under pressure from its members of parliament and non-elected party members to accommodate them on government slots. “The delay would allow the party to accommodate several important people in the Punjab cabinet. This will make it easier to accommodate the remainder at the federal level,” the source added.

“The PPP leadership is considering inducting party stalwarts in government as advisers to different ministries. The appointment of some more advisers to Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani is also under consideration,” he added.
